McCREA BLAMES DISSIDENT REPUBLICANS FOR RIOTS IN NORTHERN

IRELAND

DUP Policing Board member and Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea has condemned the recent Republican-orchestrated riots which led to over 80 police officers being injured over four nights across Northern Ireland last week.

Speaking today Ian McCrea said,

"I condemn those involved in the rioting last week with the police facing a bloody and vicious crowd full of hatred and intent on causing serious injury or death to our police officers.  It is deeply worrying that shots were fired from dissident republicans which I have no doubt was a direct attempt to murder police officers and I look forward to hearing of the arrests being made to remove these people from circulation.

I was also appalled to see the number of young children out on the streets that were actively involved in attacking the police. There are serious questions for the parents of these children to answer. I will be asking the Justice Minister to review current protocols to ensure that police and social services are working more closely together to identify parents that are guilty of neglect and putting their children in harms way by allowing them out in to a riot situation"
